A pungent herb that is a member of the mint family. Basil can have mint, clove and anise overtones. Basil is a common ingredient in Mediterranean cooking and is one of the primary ingredients of pesto.

Most basil has green leaves, however, opal basil has a purple color.

Lemon Basil, Anise Basil, Clove Basil, and Cinnamon Basil are all variates that have flavors matching their respective names.

Basil is a summer herb that likes full sunlight, however it can be grown successfully inside year round. Basil can be dried and saved for up to 6 months.
